GEELONG Falcons are one win away from their second NAB League Girls grand final appearance after seeing off Dandenong Stingrays in their elimination final clash at Shepley Oval on Saturday.

The Falcons claimed a 35-point victory to book a meeting with the winner of the other Country Zone elimination final between Tasmania and the GWV Rebels next week.

“They played brilliantly across the whole game,” coach Paul Corrigan told Bay 93.9’s The Sideline View.

“They were up-and-about right from the start. They hit the scoreboard early, and then I thought our pressure and our intensity around the ball was really consistent throughout the day.

“We had a lot of scoring shots and probably could have won by even more if we had kicked straighter.”

The meeting was the first between the clubs in 2021, with Corrigan unsure how they’d fare against the Stingrays.

“They had some pretty strong performances throughout the year, so you get through that first quarter and see where you sit and where your strengths lie,” he said.

“We felt we were winning around the ball, and we had some real potency up forward as well.

“We knew if we could get enough entries inside forward 50, we’d at least hit the scoreboard, and that’s what the girls did, and they continued it for the whole game.”

Tess Craven again enhanced her AFLW draft prospects with another best-on-ground performance while also kicking two goals.

Zoe Garth and Mia Van Dyke were the other multiple goalkickers, while Poppy Schaap and Charlotte Simpson also impressed.
