A step in the right direction

LOCAL football clubs have made the most of the easing of restrictions around the number of players who can be part of a training group.

Tuesday night saw clubs, including Barwon Heads and Ocean Grove, able to have two groups of 20 on the ground at the same time.

They had previously been limited to two groups of 10.

“The groups of 20 do not include a coach or the minimum number of support staff who are reasonably required to manage the activity as per the current Victorian Government restrictions,” a statement from AFL Barwon said.

“Two groups of 20 can utilise the same oval provided they do not operate closely together, and the oval is split into two zones.”

The easing of restrictions comes ahead of next Tuesday’s decision by the AFL Barwon Commission to either call off the senior football season for the BFL and GFL or push ahead with a start sometime in July.

The GDFL revealed last week it would follow the lead of AFL Barwon.
