SCOREBOARD – ROUND 5

DRAGONS OVERCOME LIONS, INJURIES

Bell Park has defied first-half injuries to co-captain Lachie Patten and veteran midfielder Jackson Sheringham to claim a crucial four-point win at Hi Sushi Oval. Trailing by 20 points early in the final quarter, the Dragons quickly erased the deficit and were able to keep the visitors at bay to improve to a 3-2 win-loss record. “It was always going to be hard work, but to our boys’ credit, we kept finding a way,” coach Shane Jack told K rock Football. “It was the scoreboard end most of the day … we kept grinding away. As you know, we were down a couple. But, I thought the boys really did well, and it was a good win in the end.”

CARSON PRAISES CATS

The final margin says a comfortable victory, but St Joseph’s didn’t have it all on their terms in a 43-point win over Lara at Drew Oval. The Cats made the most of a “two-goal breeze” in the opening quarter to jump to a 17-point lead at quarter time. However, Joeys did better with the assistance of the win to take a 22-point buffer into the main break and run away with the contest. “The biggest thing, for mine, was their willingness to compete,” Carson told The Wash-up podcast. “And they did structure up quite well; they generated that seventh defender quite often. And moved the footy well at times. If we had poor (forward 50) entries, they really made us hurt, and they were really fast rebounding and transition. The future looks really bright when you talk about their development.”
