GROVEDALE has become the first GFL club to start the hunt for a new coach with confirmation tonight that Simon Riddoch won’t be at Burdoo Reserve in 2020

Riddoch told the Tigers’ playing group before training tonight he won’t continue in the role next year.

“After leading the Tigers for the last two seasons, the club would like to thank Simon for his tireless hard work in his quest to build and develop a young list,” football boss Paul Whyte confirmed in a statement to krockfootball.com.au.

“We will now begin the search for the best possible candidate.”

Riddoch, an eight-time premiership player at North Shore, joined Grovedale as the replacement for Craig McCaughan just weeks after being sacked after one season in charge of Lara.

However, he arrived a time a number of experienced players were departing the club.

Brad Surkitt and now Inverleigh coach Adam Donohue both joined fellow former Tiger Jarrod Young at Geelong Amateur, star forward Jordan Erskine and defender Jordan Harrison headed to Anglesea, while injury forced Luke Delaney into retirement.

Owning one of the youngest lists in the competition, the Tigers managed six wins in 2018 – the same number they recorded in 2017.

However, they have just three victories through the opening 12 rounds of the season, with two of those coming against the winless North Shore and the other against Lara, which it meets this weekend.

More to come
