Belief-building win for Lions

LEOPOLD coach Garry Hocking believes Saturday’s upset win over St Mary’s has “changed the narrative” around what his team can achieve in 2022.

The Lions ended the Saints’ 28-game unbeaten streak and snapped a three-match losing run against last year’s minor premier with a four-point win at Anthony Costa Oval on Saturday.

“I just feel that we get a lot of confidence out of that (win),” Hocking told K rock Football. “I think we grow as a footy club.

“And maybe some other teams around the competition – or the competition itself – says, ‘if you play a certain way, and you do your homework, you just don’t know what happens’.

“They had 27 shots on goal, and they kicked 10.17, but I still think our pressure around the footy for four quarters, which is what we’ve been trying to build, kept us in good stead the last couple of weeks.”
