Williams sidelined

EAST Geelong is facing life without Luke Williams for the next few weeks after the star recruit suffered a groin injury early in Saturday’s seven-point loss to Thomson.

Eagles coach Ben Boseley says the former St Albans and Portarlington gun was forced from Richmond Crescent just three minutes into the clash.

“I think he went to two contests, and in that second contest, he suffered a bit of a groin strain, and he came off,” Boseley said.

“We might give him a few weeks to recover.”

GDFL: THE WASH-UP – ROUND 1

Williams, a former GFL interleague representative, is set to miss East’s match-ups with Inverleigh and Corio.”

“Someone of Luke’s calibre is going to add a lot to our team and even the league,” Boseley said.

“He is one of those guys you just want to come and watch and see him play.

“But, unfortunately, he will be out for a couple of weeks, and we’re just going to have to learn to adjust, and that’s why we’ve got a senior squad.

“It provides another opportunity for another senior player to put their hand up while Luke’s away.”

GDFL: MACLEOD MAKES AN IMMEDIATE IMPACT

Boseley hopes to pull on the maroon and gold for the first time against Imverleigh after a knee issue kept him out of the loss to the Tigers.

Former Birregurra star Michael Bolitho (hamstring) is also a chance to make his East Geelong debut in the clash with the Hawks.

MEANWHILE, Winchelsea fears former captain Alex Gubbins has suffered a ruptured Achilles.

The reliable defender is set to undergo scans later this week on the injury suffered in the first 10 minutes of the Blues’ loss to Bannockburn at Victoria Park on Saturday night.
