WINNERS

SCOREBOARD – ROUND 6

PANTHERS END TIGERS’ WINNING RUN

From the outside, with the injury list lengthening at Myers Reserve, Bell Post Hill’s chances of ending Bannockburn’s unbeaten start to the season appeared slim. However, Justin Tarr spoke in the build-up to the clash at Victoria Park about embracing the chance for the Panthers to test themselves against the reigning premier after early-season victories over the winless Anakie, Winchelsea and Corio. Tarr, who has been at Myers Reserve for over a decade, rated it as one of the best home-and-away wins he’s been involved in. “Reigning premiers, playing away from home against a good side, and with a few injuries, it’s right up there,” he told The Wash-up podcast.

INVERLEIGH’S FLYING START

Inverleigh is the last remaining unbeaten team in the GDFL following Saturday’s 194-point smashing of Anakie. Playing coach Adam Donohue kicked a team-best eight goals to take his tally from 25 games with the Hawks past 50. Inverleigh still has some work to do to better its best start to a season since coming out of recess in 2002. In 2015, the Hawks went 10-0 before falling to North Geelong in Round 11.

YOUNG EAGLE FLYS AGAIN

A week after kicking seven goals on debut against Anakie in Round 5, East Geelong teenager Hugh Menzies has again helped himself in front of goal. The 17-year-old finished with six majors as the Eagles got a handy percentage boost in disposing of a struggling Winchelsea to the tune of 151 points. However, it was Ocean Grove recruit Ryan Lempa who stole the show. He kicked seven goals to take his tally for the season to 13
