The Wash-Up – GDFL Round 13

WINNERS

GDFL SCOREBOARD – ROUND 13

“THE” RESULT

Werribee Centrals has sent a timely reminder that Thomson is no certainty to claim back-to-back flags after holding the previously unbeaten reigning premier goalless in the first three quarters of the clash at Galvin Park the Centurions went on to win by 51 points. Centrals coach Nick Smith admits he and assistant coach Scould barely believe what was unfolding before him as they slammed on five goals to none in the opening quarter to claim a 32-point lead. “There was a lot of shaking of the heads between me and Simon on the weekend,” Smith said. “We were just looking and going, “Wow! They’re really on today. We’re doing all the right things and all the things we talked about”. We hadn’t seen Thomson since Round 2, but they hadn’t seen us either, and we were pretty confident that we were going better than in that Round 2 game.”

JACKA TO FACE MATCH REVIEW SCRUTINY

Thomson’s dirty day at Galvin Park was made worse by the send-off of captain Sam Jacka. Jacka received a yellow card for contact on Blake Taylor during the Tigers’ 51-point loss that the AFL Barwon Match Review Panel is set to scrutinise on Monday afternoon after the offer of a two-week set penalty was rejected by the premiership skipper.

DEVILS ON BOARD EARLY

Any concerns about Corio going scoreless for a second consecutive week were put to bed early in the loss to Geelong West at VIVA Energy Oval, with the Devils kicking a goal in the opening term. Corio’s final score of 6.3 (39) was its third highest of the season.
