BANNOCKBURN’S enviable midfield depth is about to get deeper, with former captain Brad Watts making a return to football.

The GDFL Team of the Year member, who hasn’t appeared at senior level since mid-2018, was an emergency for the Tigers’ win over Werribee Centrals on the weekend.

Coach Peter Riccardi says the 33-year-old, who has more than 200 senior games to his name, is in his plans as the 2021 season unfolds.

“He’s had a change of jobs, so he’s able to get to training a fair bit more,” Riccardi said.

“He rocked up late in the pre-season and thought, “well, let’s have a crack”.

“He’s played the last two in our twos, and once he gets a bit of match fitness, he’s probably not far away from playing senior football.”

Watts will add to a midfield group already featuring the likes of Jack Brauman and recruits Daniel Measures, Matt James and Joey Fama.

“He was captain when I got to the club, and he’s just another leader that you can’t have enough of,” Riccardi said.

“Even during training, he just brings a voice and a bit of knowledge (from) being around the club for so long.”
