INVERLEIGH will start its seventh consecutive finals campaign in the box seat to win its first flag in nearly 30 years after claiming the GDFL minor premiership.

The Hawks have opened up enough of a gap on second-placed Bannockburn with two rounds remaining in the home-and-away season following a 54-point win over Thomson at a crowd-less Inverleigh Reserve.

“It’s really pleasing,” Donohue told The Wash-up podcast.

“When we were walking off (the ground) yesterday, I got the group in just before we sung the song, (and) I said, “just make sure you sing it with a bit of gusto because we’ve just sewn up the minor premiership”.

“It’s only a small sample size of what we really want to achieve.

“But, to be 12 and zip, you couldn’t ask for a better start, really, and yesterday was a really complete performance.”
