The Wash-Up – BFL Round 7

WINNERS

SCOREBOARD – ROUND 7

TIGERS EQUAL 2017 START

If Torquay is looking for an omen in its chase for a league-record ninth BFL flag then it doesn’t need to look too far into the past. The Tigers have started the season 7-0 following Saturday’s 97-point hiding of Queenscliff – they also commenced their most recent premiership season in 2017 with the same record. Torquay celebrated 70 season of existence against the Coutas by wearing its heritage “bumblebee” jumper. Paul McMahon returned from a fortnight on the sidelines in style with six goals. Lucas Anderson contributed four majors to move to within two of Anglesea star Jordan Erskine in the race for the league goalkicking award.

MILESTONE FOR WORPEL

Tom Worpel was the standout in Modewarre’s 34-point win over Drysdale at Community Bank Oval with five goals. It was the third consecutive week Worpel finished with a handful, after five-goal outings against Portarlington and Torquay. It also took Worpel past the 150-goal milestone for the Warriors. Worpel has played 107 games for Modewarre since arriving from Bannockburn in 2015. In that time he has missed just one senior match – dropped for for first time in Round 15, 2009 after 96 consecutive appearances at 2 o’clock.
