SCOREBOARD – ROUND 3

SHELLEY SIDELINED

Geelong Amateur is fearing the worst with a knee injury suffered by Bevan Shelley in the loss Torquay in Round 2. Shelley, who has returned to the club from a GFL stint with Newtown & Chilwell, and time on Werribee’s VFL list, has previously suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. “At this stage, we’re probably thinking it’s an ACL,” Ammos coach Kane Tenace said. “He came off the ground and pretty much said that it felt exactly the same as the last time. That’s not a good sign. He’s getting in and having some scans this week. It’s been pretty swollen over the last seven or eight days. We’ve got our fingers crossed but it doesn’t look like we’ll see him again this year.”

CHEERS TO BEERS

Lewis Beers may not have received the same media coverage as some other BFL recruits, but he is already proving to be a handy addition at Anglesea. From Heidelberg in Melbourne’s Northern League, after suffering a knock in the Round 1 clash with Modewarre, he’s bounced back to be among the Roos’ best against Barwon Heads and Newcomb. “He knows where to go, he knows how to play football, and coming from Heidelberg, he knows how to play the game,” coach Paul Nigro said. “He’s fitted in very well, and he’s very versatile with where he can play as well, which is great for us.”

TIGERS TO MAKE CALL ON ANDERSON REPORT

Torquay has a decision to make after star forward Lucas Anderson was offered a one-week set penalty for making high contact with Drysdale veteran Chris Lynch. If the ban is accepted, he will miss Saturday’s grand final re-match against Barwon Heads. Anderson kicked two goals in the Tigers’ 41-point win over the Hawks, taking his season tally to a competition-high 20.
