SCOREBOARD – ROUND 13

BREUST THROWS DOWN CHALLENGE TO TIGER

It is unlikely casual BFL observers would have had Drysdale’s James Bresut in the mix for the league goalkicking award at the start of the 2021 season. However, with Jarrod Garth sidelined with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, Breust has picked up some of the slack in his first year in brown-and-gold. He kicked six goals in the Hawks’ crucial win over Queenscliff to take his tally to 39 – just three behind Torquay spearhead Lucas Anderson. “He’s a very good player,” coach Luke Matthews told The Wash-up podcast. “And I’ve said this to a lot of people all year, I still don’t think we’ve seen the best of him. I know he’s kicked some bags of six or seven (goals) … one day I reckon he’s going to go close to the double-figure mark. He’s an unbelievable player. He’s so hard to match up on. He’s a big boy; strong tall – a quality player.”

HERBIE PULLS UP WELL

Mitch Herbison has made a solid return after battling an ongoing knee problem through the first half of the season. The Barwon Heads co-coach kicked four goals in a dynamic forward line in which he, Nathan Brown and Mitch Phelps shared 13 majors between them. “I’ve pulled up pretty well,” Herbison told The Wash-up podcast. “I was expecting to be a bit worse than what I am. I’m moving around alright today, which is good. Hopefully, it’s one of those things that gets better and better with each game.” The Seagulls do have one injury concern from its 100-point hiding of Barwon Heads, with Geelong Falcon Archie Hildebrandt suffered a collarbone injury.
