Tigers to plan with certainty

TORQUAY can start planning for a second semi-final appearance with some certainty after overcoming a slow start to register a 47-point win over Anglesea at Ellimatta Reserve.

The victory has the unbeaten Tigers three games and just shy of 80 per cent clear of second-placed Modewarre with four rounds remaining, which includes a meeting with the winless Portarlington next Saturday.

Coach Dom Gleeson says Torquay has had an eye on securing the minor premiership, which will allow them to prepare with some certainty.

“We’re putting a bit of a load into the boys now, and just making sure come three or four weeks time, we’re on top of the ground,” Gleeson told The Wash-up podcast.

“It is challenging. COVID is the gift that keeps giving. We’ve had three weeks off, so what’s the right answer?

“Do we load them up and risk the case of overloading them and injuring them? Or do we just coast through?

“But, we’ll give them a bit of a spike in conditioning.

“We’re healthy, we’ve got a fit list, and hope to continue it that way.”
