The Wash-Up – BFL Round 17

WINNERS
MODDA LOCKS AWAY DOUBLE-CHANCE
Modewarre will start its finals campaign from the qualifying final after seeing off an early challenge from Queenscliff in the Round 17 clash at Community Bank Oval. The Warriors ran out 45-point winners, keeping them in second spot – a game clear of Barwon Heads, Ocean Grove and Anglesea. “We impressed on that to our boys before the game how important the game was and the result was,” coach Chris Hickey told The Wash-up podcast. “Sometimes, you don’t want to look too far forward. But it was just a really, really important game for us, and we knew that if we run that there was a strong likelihood we could finish second or third. So, it’s very, very pleasing.” Even if Modewarre was to lose to Drysdale in Round 18, they would need to lose by 20 goals, and have the Grubbers beat the Roos by 20 goals, or vice-versa to be knocked out of a qualifying final berth.
‘CHOOK’ IN BOX SEAT FOR GOAL-KICKING TITLE
Unless Jordan Erskine can have a day out in Anglesea’s ‘dead-rubber’ against Ocean Grove, he will fall short of becoming just the third player in BFL history to win three consecutive goal-kicking awards. The Roos star trails Torquay’s Lucas Anderson by 11 goals with one round to play after the former St Joseph’s gun slammed home 13 majors in the mauling of Portarlington to move to 56 for the season.
