BARWON Heads has formally started the search for a replacement for co-coach Troy Mitchell.

As krockfootball.com.au revealed on August 19, Mitchell will step down when the Seagulls’ 2021 campaign comes to an end.

Mitch Herbison, who has been in the role since 2017, is expected to retain his position.

Mitchell joined the club ahead of the 2019 season, having previously taken Lara and St Mary’s to GFL grand finals and leading the GFL interleague team.

He helped deliver the Seagulls its fifth BFL premiership – and first in 26 years – in 2019.

BFL: COUTAS LOSE “AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND OF A MAN”

“We know that to continue our success of the previous few years, we need to appoint a coach who can continue the development of our homegrown talent, drive our winning culture and ‘team first’ ethic,” president Tim Goddard said.

“Our club is one built on community and success. Over the past three seasons, only six teams – across footy, netball, girls/women’s footy and junior footy – have missed the finals.

“We are seeking a coach who has the drive to continue our desire to remain a leading club in the Bellarine – on and off the field.

“We know many have moved to the region, and we are excited by the opportunity which lay in front of the right applicant.

“The Bellarine is an exceptional country competition, and as a leading club, we are seeking an exceptional coach to lead our club in its Centenary year and beyond.”

Barwon Heads will meet Ocean Grove in a knockout first semi-final when and if the BFL season resumes.

Applications for the role close on September 17.
