“How bad do you want it?”

Can Newcomb improve to 2-2 with a win over Ocean Grove in Round 4? (Sports Media Image/Marcel Berens)

AT three-quarter time of Saturday’s clash with Geelong Amateur, with his team trailing by 13 points, Newcomb’s playing group asked themselves one simple question – “how bad do you want it?”

The final result says “extremely” as the Power slammed on six goals to two in the last term at Newcomb Sand & Soil Oval to snap a five-game losing streak and end a run of 26 consecutive losses to Ammos.

For the first time this season, Newcomb was the right end of a tight result, with four of its losses coming by 16 points or less.

Co-coach Jye Walker admits the run of narrow defeats had become a mental battle for his players.

“Guys were starting to question things when we had those close losses,” he told The Wash-up podcast.

“But, we just had to go back to basics at times, and train hard and be a bit more physical.

“And get them to understand what they’ve been doing works. Unfortunately, with those close ones (losses), it was only working for three quarters.

“So, we just had to get them to learn to fight and grind it out.”
