ROOKIE forward Tom Atkins and midfielder Sam Menegola have become the latest Geelong players to re-sign with the club.

Both have added an extra year to their current deals, which will keep them at GMHBA Stadium until at least the end of 2021.

Atkins was a revelation for the Cats after being taken in last year’s Rookie Draft.

The St Joseph’s product, who won Geelong’s VFL best-and-fairest twice before getting his chance, played in 23 of the Cats’ 25 matches in 2019.

Menegola has made the most of his third chance at an AFL club.

After failing to crack a senior match in stints as a rookie at Hawthorn and Fremantle, Geelong grabbed the West Australian in the 2015 National Draft.

The 27-year-old has featured in 65 games and kicked 48 goals in his four seasons at the club.

“Both Sam and Tom have proven themselves as valuable members of our team, and we are pleased to have reached these new agreements,” football boss Simon Lloyd said.

“They are influential in setting high standards within our playing group, and we feel both have continued growth ahead of them.”

Atkins and Menegola join Patrick Dangerfield, Mitch Duncan and Gary Rohan as those to ink contract extensions in the off-season.

However, 16 players on Geelong’s list remain out-of-contract beyond 2020.
