DANNI Orr didn’t know exactly how many days there were until Round 1 of the AFL Women’s season when she faced the media earlier this week.

However, the Geelong small forward is well aware that the historic meeting with Collingwood on February 2 will be here before you know it.

“It’s that old cliché, but I keep taking each day as it comes, in terms of training and just making sure I’m ticking off all that training, getting the conditioning, the skills, and giving myself the best chance possible to put my name forward for Round 1,” Orr said.

Orr will be battling for a spot in a talented Geelong forward line over the next eight weeks.

The former local netball star has kicked 23 goals from 31 games in her two VFL seasons.

“We’ve done some divisional stuff towards the end of training. I’m in the forward group, so I’ve been splitting off with that and working on our skills.

“But we’ve been doing a lot of craft, because no matter what positions you play, there’s all different areas you need to work on.

“We’ve got a really strong list and everyone’s very capable, so it’s going to be really challenging to earn your spot.

“But, I think that competitiveness is important and it’s all going to make us better.”
