AFL Women’s draft prospects Nina Morrison and Olivia Purcell will make their VFL debuts in Geelong’s clash with Essendon at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.

The talented pair were part of the Geelong Falcons TAC Cup premiership victory earlier this year and are both expected to be selected in the top 10 at October’s National Draft.

“That’s really exciting for us to have two players from the Geelong Falcons and the national academy and the Vic Country team playing in the squad,” Cats coach Paul Hood said.

“It will be great to see them run out in the Hoops for the first time.”

Morrison and Purcell are among three inclusions for Geelong, with Laura Taylor returning to the side.

Georgia Clark has been rested, Maddy McMahon will miss due to illness, while Erin Hoare is unavailable.

Hoare’s absence will see another Falcons premiership player in Zoe Inei carry the ruck load in just her second game for the Cats after debuting against Richmond last week.

“Zoe competed really well last week. It was a great first up performance from her,” Hood said.

“It’s great to be able to give her another opportunity.”

The Bombers may reside on the bottom of the VFL Women’s ladder, but Hood has urged his charges to bring the same intensity and pressure it produced in last week’s club record win over the Tigers.

“Particularly the first three quarters, we were really solid,” he said.

“We’re going try to do that and make sure we can play the game in our half of the ground.”
