Cranston caps stellar season

RICHELLE Cranston has been duly rewarded for an outstanding season that helped Geelong to its first VFL Women’s Grand Final by winning the Cats’ best-and-fairest.

Cranston, who was recognised with selection in the VFL Team of the Year earlier this month, polled 368 votes to win by 35 from fellow midfielder Maighan Fogas on 333.

Recent AFLW rookie signing Maddy McMahon finished third on 325 votes despite missing three games late in the season.

Captain Bec Goring (319 votes) finished fourth, with veteran Mia-Rae Clifford a vote further back in fifth on 318 votes.

Geelong’s voting system sees each player ranked out of 15 on two scorecards – one from the coach and the other combined from the assistant coaches.

Those scoreboards are combined and the player is given a total score out of 30, with their best 15 (out of 17) matches becoming the final tally.
