GEELONG AFLW captain Mel Hickey is set to make a timely first appearance in the Hoops at VFL level after being named in the team for Saturday’s critical clash with Melbourne Uni at Deakin University’s Elite Sports Precinct.

Hickey isn’t the only big name inclusion for the Cats, with AFLW teammates Kate Darby, Denby Taylor and Olivia Purcell also named, while potential father-daughter draft selection Millie Brown will play her first game for the club.

Brown, whose dad Paul played 84 games and kicked 66 goals for Geelong in the 1990s, has starred in recent years with Murray Bushrangers at NAB League level and been a regular Vic Country representative.

VFL: CATS REMAIN CAUTIOUS WITH COCKY

Geelong Falcons captain Lucy McEvoy returns to the team that beat NT Thunder by 43 points at GMHBA Stadium last week, while Falcons best-and-fairest runner-up Paige Sheppard will make her debut as 23rd player.

A win over Melbourne Uni would see the Cats replace the Mugars inside the top six.

However, a loss could see them a game and percentage outside with games two games remaining.
