MICHAEL Sodomaco has extended his VFL career into the 10th season after re-signing with Werrribee for 2019.

Sodomaco, who has played 83 senior games and captained the club since 2016, becomes Werribee’s longest-serving player following the retirement of Nathan Laracy, a mantle he has played down.

“I suppose I’m getting a bit older, aren’t I? I’m hoping it makes me a bit wiser,” he said.

“There’s obviously been a lot of change over the off-season, so it’s good to finally put pen to paper and lock in another year.

“I’m hopeful we can carry through a lot of things we’ve been good at in previous years and have the new coaches and staff coming in bringing some new ideas that will complement that.”

The 27-year-old is coming off arguably his best season with the club, playing all 18 games and finishing fourth in the best-and-fairest.

“I’ve always felt like I’ve had good patches of form, but unlucky runs of injuries have stalled them a bit,” Sodomaco said.

“This year, I perhaps didn’t have the same rich vein of form at any one stage, but my contribution over the year was probably my biggest when you look at the season as a whole, so I’m hopeful that will hold me in good stead for next year.”

A product of Lara, Sodomaco will again have reigning GFL premier St Joseph’s as his interchange club.
