Sam’s stellar season rewarded

MIDFIELDER Sam Simpson has taken out the Vic Fuller Medal as Geelong VFL best-and-fairest.

The 21-year-old polled 366 votes to finish 37 clear of key forward Wylie Buzza on 329.

VFL listed small forward Jackson McLachlan was one vote further back in third on 328 votes.

Defender Ben Reid, who finished runner-up in 2017, was fourth on 326 votes, James Parsons rounded out the top five on 303.

Simpson played in all 19 games for the Cats, who bowed out in the elimination final.

However, along with Reid, sixth-placed Jacob Kennerley (18 games) and 10th-placed Oscar Brownless (18 games), only their best 17 polling matches were counted as to not disadvantage players held over as AFL emergencies.
