Cats look for energy boost

BOOSTING the energy levels among the playing group has been a key focus for Geelong VFLW coach Natalie Wood ahead of Sunday’s crucial clash with NT Thunder at GMHBA Stadium.

The Cats missed a chance to consolidate a spot inside the top six after suffering a 16-point loss to Darebin Falcons last week and now sit two points behind sixth-placed Hawthorn with four rounds to play.

“We’ve been trying to lift the vibe, the amount of talk, the type of talk; just having that collective belief and confidence,” Wood said.

“So, walking a bit taller, whether they’re winning or losing. Walking a bit taller to support the NAB League kids that are coming through and our younger players who haven’t played as many games.

“And just having that level of belief, regardless of where the game’s at.

“So, when we’re winning we want to be getting more dominance on field. Or when we’re losing we want to have that confidence to peg it back.

“I thought that was really missing on the weekend.”

VFL: COCKY TO BE EASED BACK

Geelong is equal on points with the Thunder with four rounds to play.

“It’s probably an eight-point game,” Wood said. “NT is coming off a really tough week themselves.

“They’ve got a lot of spirit and lot of fight, so I know they’ll be looking to make amends for their couple of weeks, as are we.

“We really licked our wounds after last week. It should be a really strong battle.”

The Cats have named AFLW duo Sophie Van De Heuvel and Maddy Keryk, while former Geelong Falcons Luka Lesosky-Hay and Elise Vella have also been included for their first games since early June.
