Bennett earns new deal at Werribee

GEELONG West young gun Joel Bennett has earned a new deal with VFL club Werribee for 2019.

The Corio product impressed in his first season at the Tigers, playing 10 matches and kicking 16 goals, including six against Frankston in just his fifth game.

Werribee has also locked away Bell Park-aligned Keegan Gray.

Originally from Portland in the Hampden league, Gray managed seven appearances for the Tigers after making his debut in Round 13.

“Joel was able to get a handful of games up and showed he’s going to be a really valuable attribute to our forward line,” Werribee football boss Stu Balloch said.

“He’s still got a lot of scope for development, which is exciting, so we’re looking forward to him playing regular senior football in 2019.

“Keegan came in as one of our 23rd players and was able to have an impact immediately.

“He’s got some really good attributes as a running outside midfielder, and we’re hopeful he can continue to develop and believe he has some exciting potential as a footballer.”

Bennett and Gray take to seven the number of signings confirmed by Werribee for 2019.

Among those also locked away are former Fremantle and Gold Coast midfielder Michael Barlow, three-time best-and-fairest Matt Hanson and St Mary’s youngster Max Augerinos.

Meanwhile, the Tigers have announced Ballan Holden will extend its major sponsorship of the club to 20 years.

“The word ‘sponsor’ has never really described the relationship between our club and the Ballan family for either party,” Werribee CEO Mark Penaluna said.

“We share common values as organisations and have a real connection in how we deal with people.

“The partnership has been and will continue to be a very good fit on a professional and personal level.”
