Baker gets AFL break

FORMER St Joseph’s star Torin Baker’s work as coach of TAC Cup club Western Jets hasn’t gone unnoticed, with the 39-year-old joining Hawthorn as a development coach.

A qualified teacher, Baker has also worked in the strong sports program at Maribyrnong College.

“This is probably the next step for me now in my coaching so I’m really excited to be able to get this position at Hawthorn,” Baker said.

“I think a background in teaching lends itself well to those transferrable skills in coaching.

“I really value my teaching background and I’ve certainly used it a lot within my footy coaching.”

Baker is no stranger to Hawks’ coach Alistair Clarkson, playing under the four-time premiership mentor at VFL club Werribee in 2000.
