Modewarre (4th) vs. Ocean Grove (5th)

Ron Evans Oval – Portarlington Recreation Reserve

Sunday, August 20, 2:10pm

MODEWARRE will be hoping history repeats itself when it meets Ocean Grove in Sunday’s elimination final. The Warriors started last year’s finals series from the same position, knocking out Torquay on its audacious run to a first BFL Grand Final appearance. They take on a Grubbers line-up that enters the contest coming off a 109-point hiding from Queenscliff. Ocean Grove went into its final round clash without star midfielder James Linton, big man Andrew Jarvis and captain Kelly Williams. All three will add some much-needed class to the Grubber line-up if they return to take on Modewarre. When the two teams first met back in Round 8, Ocean Grove overcame a slow start to snatch a 10-point win, with star forward Jake Carmody kicking four goals. At the other end, small forward Josh McDonald starred with majors. The return bout in Round 16 resulted in a comfortable 39-point win for the Warriors at Ray Menzies Oval. Once again it was Carmody and McDonald that were the focal points for their teams, kicking four and three goals respectively. While Ocean Grove was well beaten by the Coutas, Modewarre tuned up for the elimination final with a solid 52-point win over Drysdale. In a good sign for the Warriors, Josh Bouwman (six), Chris Mamalis (four) and Luke Forbes (four) kicked 14 goals between them.
