QUALITY midfielder Gennaro Bove and key defender Cam Fleeton have been named co-captains of the Geelong Falcons for the 2020 NAB League season.

Bove and Fleeton will head up a 10-man leadership group, that also includes three emerging leaders, which was voted on by players and staff at Highton Reserve.

From Newtown & Chilwell, Bove was rapt to receive a phone call from coach Luke Daffy informing of the news.

“I told him how much of an honour it is to captain this club,” the Geelong Grammar student said.

“Coming into the program at bottom-age 18s, I never would have thought I would be here.

“I’ve put in a mountain of work since then. I love coming to training every week just because of the environment we’ve got here and they foster.

“Cam and I are going to really try and drive that along with the other leaders this year.”

Fleeton, who is a member of the Vic Country Academy admits he wasn’t sure why Daffy was calling him during school hours.

“When he told me, I was really happy; I wasn’t expecting it at all,” the Geelong West product said.

“I’m really grateful to get the opportunity to captain with Gennaro.

“It should be a really good year.”

Supporting Bove and Fleeton are Charlie Brauer, Tanner Bruhn, Noah Gribble, Charlie Ham and Charlie Lazzaro,

The emerging leaders’ group includes 17-year-old trio Mitch Knevitt, Oscar Morrison and Indi Parish.

Sixty-seven players remain in contention for the 60 spots on the final list, which will be confirmed early next week.
