PAUL Corrigan will have the opportunity to continue to indulge in his passion for talent development following his appointment as head coach of the Geelong Falcons

The former Geelong midfielder will take on the full-time role at Highton Reserve that will see him lead both the Falcons boys and girls in the 2021 NAB League season.

Corrigan, who played 53 games in five seasons at the Cats, has had extensive coaching experience since his AFL playing days, including leading GFL club South Barwon, and seven years at Essendon.

He most recently was Vic Metro Academy Coach.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to have a number of years coaching at AFL level,” Corrigan said.

“But now I really want to give back to the pathway system – both girls and boys coming through.

“Also looking at community-based football in the local clubs, and how can we support their programs to keep this talent coming through, and make sure local clubs and schools have the best programs they can have to support the talent coming through.”

Corrigan, who was appointed along with talent manager and fellow former Cat Tom Lonergan, following an AFL restructure, takes on the coaching roles previously held by Luke Daffy (boys) and Brendan McCartney (girls).

“The thing we’re looking forward to is having that consistent messaging across both boys and girls programs, so I’m really excited to do that as well,” he said.

“I had components of that that I was doing with the Metro Girls this year.

“It’s just another exciting chapter in the coaching stuff that I’m doing.”

Corrigan, who played in four premierships with South Barwon, will start looking at the coaching and support staff for both teams when he commences in the role next month.

“We’ll look at what was in place and what those guys intentions are going forward,” he said.

“And looking at new coaching talent that might want to come into that pathway stuff through the Falcons.”
