GEELONG Falcons stars have dominated selection in the final Vic Country team for the under-18 National Championships opener against Vic Metro at Werribee’s Avalon Airport Oval.

Captain Lucy McEvoy, Daisy Smith, Abbey Chapman, Darcy Moloney, Luka Lesosky-Hay, Paige Sheppard, Elise Vella, Renee Tierney and Laura Gardiner are all a part of the final 24.

Mia Skinner, who won the NAB League goalkicking, couldn’t be considered due to injury.

“We’ve been training hard over the last five weeks with a big focus on our fundamental skills,” Country coach Aasta O’Connor said.

“We’re looking to play a clean brand of footy that’s fast, hard and attacking but understanding that everything starts in and around the contest.

“We have a really flexible group with a lot of girls who can play multiple positions; our job is to put them in the position where they’ll shine but also in a role that will suit the team.”

Following the clash with Metro, the Country Girls will head to the Gold Coast in early July for the remainder of the championships.

Meanwhile, Falcons quintet Poppy Schaap, Gabbi Featherston, Alannah Sanderson, Analea McKee and Libby Dowling will be part of the Vic Country under-16 team that will take on Vic Metro as a curtain-raiser to the under-18 clash.
