The Wash-Up – GFL Round 7

WINNERS

GFL SCOREBOARD – ROUND 7

“THE” RESULT

St Joseph’s made it 10 consecutive wins dating back to last year’s 1st semi-final in beating Leopold by 67 points. Joeys, who conceded the first two goals of the third quarter to see the margin cut back to five points, outscored the Lions 10 goals-to-one from that point. “It was a real arm-wrestle for a half, then Leopold jumped out of the blocks after half time and kicked the first couple within a couple of minutes and got back within five or six points, and it was really game on at this point,” St Joseph’s coach Paul Carson said. “To our boys’ credit, we kicked the next 10 goals and really blew that game open. But, all day, regardless of the scoreboard, it was a really heated contest and both teams were really cracking in. It was still a really good game of footy.”

STAR SWAN NEGOTIATES RETURN

There was some good news at McDonald Reserve before South Barwon dished out a 194-point hiding to North Shore, with high-profile recruit Taylor Mulraney getting through his first game for the Swans after an injury-interrupted start to 2019. The five-time Koroit premiership player, who did a pre-season with Geelong VFL, has been battling a foot problem. Mulraney kicked two goals and featured among South’s best.

THE KEY NUMBER

6. North Shore’s final score on Saturday was the lowest in its proud GFL history. Missing star duo Jay Schulz (calf) and Nick Dixon (Essendon VFL), the Seagulls were always going to struggle to be competitive against South Barwon. Their lone goal came from debutant Luke Brady during time-on of the second quarter.

SOCIAL

A great SBFNC moment today with Pat Cunningham receiving his jumper from his dad, Brett Cunningham. Well done Patty, we look forward to many more 👏#14 #sorryaboutthemudhelen
