The Wash-Up – GFL Round 11

WINNERS

GFL SCOREBOARD – ROUND 11

“THE” RESULT

Bell Park defied both the weather and St Mary’s to put itself in the box seat for another finals appearance. The nail-biting five-point win at Anthony Costa Oval has the Dragons two games clear of the Saints and South, who occupy seventh and sixth spots on the ladder heading into next week’s bye. “It was so crucial to get over the line,” Bell Park co-coach Shane Jack said. “They’ve been in ripping form the last five weeks and it was good to get them in a close one. It was tough conditions for everyone. It was a good, honest game; both sides really cracked in. We had a really good second quarter that set-up a 27-point lead at half-time, but they came really hard in the last quarter. The torrential rain in the last quarter turned it into a fight.” Lachie Patten’s impressive season continued. He kicked two goals and was named the Dragons’ best.

GIANTS MARK MILESTONE WITH THRILLING WIN

Geelong West ensured Daniel Craven’s 100th game for the club was a memorable one as it held on for a one-point win over Lara at West Oval. Craven has been at West since crossing from Newtown & Chilwell ahead of the 2013 season. “He’s a terrific club man, Daniel,” coach Greg Mellor said. “He’s one of those really club people that does whatever he can to help out. As a player in the team, he’ll play whatever role you ask him to, and he does it to the best of his ability. He’s certainly a popular player and club person.”

JOEYS UNVEIL ANOTHER DEBUTANT

St Joseph’s coach Paul Carson hasn’t been afraid to play debutants in his first season in charge, with Dylan Pettingill the latest in Saturday’s win over South Barwon. Pettingill was set to line-up with Ovens and Murray League club Lavington in 2019 after returning from Jindera in neighbouring Hume League where he kicked 65 goals in 37 games. However, he arrived at Drew Oval late in pre-season and has impressed with 16 goals from nine games in the reigning premier’s reserve grade team.

As presented by co-captain Rhys Hultgren, Dylan Pettingill becomes player #593 to debut for the seniors ⁣#TJW 🇧🇪🦘
