THE make-up of the GFL Interleague team for Saturday’s AFL Victoria Community Championships 1v2 clash with Easter is expected to be known sometime Wednesday with coach Clinton Wells and selectors meeting tonight to finalise the line-up.

The GFL, which has held the No.1 mantle since 2013, trained with the Geelong VFL squad at GMHBA Stadium earlier this evening.

Joining the squad for the first time were St Joseph’s duo Zac Morrison and Lucas Anderson, with Wells revealing Lara coach Tony Armstrong (work) and Leopold goal sneak Brandon Howarth (hamstring) won’t play.

Cats-listed quartet Jackson McLachlan (St Joseph’s), Sam Dobson (St Mary’s) and Colac duo Sam McLachlan (and Campbell Floyd have also been ruled after failing to to play the GFL games required to make them eligible for selection.

Wells is also waiting for word from Geelong on whether the GFL will have access to St Joseph’s star Jordan Keras and Bell Park-aligned James Gow, while North Shore coach Sam Darley (thumb) and Colac star Jonathan Simpkin (hamstring) are in doubt.

“(Simpkin’s) going to get it sorted tonight, hopefully, and he’s going to let me know in the next couple of hours whether he’ll be available or not,” Wells said of the Hawthorn premiership midfielder.

“He’s really keen to put his hand up, but it just depends on how he goes with that.”

However, despite his club coach Kane Leersen telling krockfootball.com.au he thought Lochie Veale would miss with a broken nose, the Colac big man hasn’t ruled himself out.

“Lochie Veale’s definitely still a potential (to play),” Wells said.

“Even with a broken nose he’s put his hand up, so that’s fantastic from our point-of-view that he’s keen to play.

“As as a 32-year-old, he’s well within his rights to have the week off. But for him to put his hand up and have a crack is fantastic.

“We’ll go through our squad tonight. We’ve got a few options for the ruck, but having his presence is potentially a good thing for us.”
