North Shore (11th) vs. Leopold (8th) @ Windsor Park, Saturday, 2:10pm

The John Nankervis Shield goes on the line when Grovedale and South Barwon meet in the only clash of opening round winners. The Tigers showed no mercy to an undermanned North Shore, with Werribee listed Hudson Garoni making an immediate impact on the competition with five goals. The Swans didn’t have it all their own way in beating St Albans by 38 points. South spearhead Brett Blair will be missing after accepting a one-week suspension for striking Supersaints youngster Bailey Brogden.

North Shore won’t have access to former coach Jason Davenport in 2019. The former Geelong and Port Adelaide midfielder, who is in his second year as a development coach at Carlton, has lodged a clearance to Eastern league club Templestowe. Davenport played 71 games and kicked 122 goals for the Seagulls, coaching the club between 2015-17.

The teenage son of one Bell Park’s greatest ever players will make his debut in the Dragons’ clash with St Mary’s at Hamlyn Park. 17-year-old Jack Sarcevic, son of Ray, will pull on the No.63 this afternoon after impressing with four goals in a best-on-ground performance in last week’s under-19 win over. Ray was a member of Bell Park’s 1991 premiership team after returning to Geelong from a stint in Queensland in which won three flags at Southport and represented the Maroons at the 1988 Bicentennial Carnival in Adelaide. He also played four matches for Cats across 1984-85 and is the only Dragon to top the ton in the GFL.

Former Geelong midfielder Josh Cowan has been named for his first game of the season as St Mary’s travels out to Bell Park. Former Saint Jack Lang is among three inclusions at Newtown & Chilwell, with former Geelong Falcon Baxter Mensch and fellow Cats VFL development player Brayden Helyar included for the Eagles. St Joseph’s will get back Cal Mitchell from Geelong duties but small forward Jackson McLachlan has been called up by the Cats. Ex-Falcon Doyle Madigan will make his debut at South Barwon, while Mitch Rodd looks set to line-up for the Swans after featuring with North Melbourne’s VFL team last week. Leopold captain Sam Hughes has been named in the Lions squad to take on North Shore after serving his one-week suspension for front-on contact during last year’s preliminary final loss.
