MATCH OF THE ROUND

The final roll of the dice comes for Grovedale at Burdoo Reserve this afternoon. The Tigers are eight points and more than 30 per cent adrift of fifth-placed St Joseph’s and nearly 40 per cent behind today’s opponent Leopold with three rounds to play. Victory for Grovedale will have it within one game of both the Joeys and Lions. However, St Joseph’s will have a game in hand with its Round 16 clash against St Mary’s pushed back to August 20. The Tigers snatched an after-the-siren win when it travelled out to Leopold Memorial Park in Round 7 in one of the games of the season. The Lions will have plenty of incentive to beat Grovedale. Premiership captain Jai Thompson will make his 200th appearance at open age level for the club, while a win also keeps the slim hope of snatching the double-chance alive.

LENNY IN PRINT

A book celebrating the life of late Newtown & Chilwell Legend and GFL icon Len Alford will now be launched next Saturday. The Eagles had planned the launch for today, but with their meeting with North Shore shifted to Windsor Park due to the condition of Elderslie Reserve, it will now be held next Saturday at midday before the following day’s clash with St Mary’s. The brainchild of the Braddock family, the book has been written by Paul Millar thanks to the support of 100 people who donated $100 to make it possible. It’s a tribute to his life and something we wanted to do before he passed,” president Shaun McWilliam said. “He was a big part of all our lives.”

BIG NIGHT FOR TIGERS

Colac will hold a Legends Celebration function tonight at its Central Reserve base. The Tigers, who have the weekend off after shifting their clash with South Barwon to August 20, will announce their latest club legends. The function will also incorporate the unveiling of the 2011-2020 teams of the decade for football and netball, and the 20 from 20 football team, marking Colac’s first two decades in the GFL.
