Sunday, August 1

  • St Joseph’s v Geelong West Giants @ Drew Oval, 2:15pm (K rock Match of the Day)

A toss of the coin between the South Barwon-Bell Park and St Joseph’s-Geelong West match-ups, and the penny has landed on its side. With both games live-streamed, set aside three hours Saturday and Sunday to take in local football at its best. The winner of the Swans-Dragons clash at McDonald Reserve will put themselves in the box seat to claim the double-chance, while the loser could fall out of the top five depending on the result of other matches. One of those other matches is the battle between Joeys and the Giants. A win for West would see it climb to fourth. It would also mean St Joseph’s sits two games outside of the top five with three rounds to play. As well as being live-streamed, the Joeys-West battle will be broadcast live on K rock 955

Sidelined for three months while overcoming a concussion, Colac young gun Frazer O’Gorman has received the green light to return to the field. Tigers coach Rowan McSparron says O’Gorman, who returned from a stint with SANFL club Central District ahead of the 2021 season, will play around a quarter in reserve grade clash with Leopold. “He was feeling really good so he got a scan brought forward, and he got it all ticked off,” McSparron. “He went in, got it done, and now he’s right to go.”

North Shore and St Albans will have plenty of motivation beyond registering their first win of the season when they meet at Windsor Park tomorrow. Both the Seagulls and Supersaints have players making their 100th appearance. At North Shore, highly-respected defender Patrick Cleary will bring up the milestone having barely missed a game since arriving at Windsor Park in 2015. While for St Albans, captain Brent Vermuelen and the versatile Patrick Barber will also reach the mark.

With crowds banned from attending matches, AFL Barwon will be providing live streams of four GFL matches across the weekend. On Saturday, the South Barwon-Bell Park, North Shore-St Albans and Newtown & Chilwell-Grovedale match-ups will be featured. Sunday’s clash between St Joseph’s and Geelong West, which will also be broadcast on K rock 95.5, will also be streamed. Leopold has organised its own live-stream for the match-up with unbeaten ladder-leader Colac

AFL Barwon has slightly adjusted starting times for this weekend’s GFL matches to allow for a greater gap between the reserves and seniors. The seconds have been brought forward to an 11:45 bounce, while the firsts have been pushed back to 2:15pm.
