REIGNING Geelong Falcons best-and-fairest Cassidy Parish has signed with GFL club Grovedale.

The Winchelsea product, who was overlooked during the AFL draft period, is currently training with VFL club Werribee.

The Parish name is a familiar one at Burdoo Reserve, with younger brothers Fin and Indi  working their way up through the Tigers juniors.

“If we see him he’ll be handy for us,” Grovedale coach Simon Riddoch said. “He’s obviously a very strong inside mid.

“The difference will be the transition from playing Falcons to senior men’s footy, where the ball’s a bit more congested.

“Stoppages have a few more players around it, so just adapting to different styles.”

Parish is not the only former TAC Cup club best-and-fairest arriving at Grovedale, with former Bendigo Pioneer Keelin Betson confirmed as a signing in November.

“His brother plays with us, Riddoch said. ”

“He’s training up with Werribee as well, so we’ve got a couple on the go (there), but we’re hoping they play at VFL level as well.”

Riddoch has taken charge of a list that will barely resemble what took to the field in the final round of 2017, with up to a dozen departures confirmed.

However, that isn’t a scenario which fazes the North Shore great.

“The players that have left have given very good service to the Grovedale footy club,” Riddoch said.

“They go with the blessings of the football club and they’re welcome back at any time.

“I’ve not coached any of the boys and don’t really know them.

“All I know is what we’ve got, and the boys seem very committed to what they need to do and what they need to get out of themselves to play at the (required) standard.”

Grovedale will open its season with a home clash against South Barwon, followed by match-ups against Lara, Leopold and reigning premier St Joseph’s.

“The first six games we’ll know exactly where we’re at and where the competition’s at,” Riddoch said.

“It’s a pretty good draw this year, the way it all pans out for the GFL and AFL Barwon and what they’re trying to implement into the competition.”
