LEOPOLD premiership duo Nick and Kevin Bourke will return from injury on Saturday via the Lions’ reserve grade meeting with St Albans.

Former Geelong rookie Nick has been sidelined with an ankle issue suffered late in the Pride Cup win over Newtown & Chilwell, while Kevin picked up a shoulder injury the following week against South Barwon.

“At this stage, with our policy, both the Bourkes will play at 12 o’clock this week, which might be unchartered territory for them both,” coach Guy Morphet said.

“But we’ve set a solid precedent this year with blokes coming back from 2-3 week period injuries.”

However, defender Jayden McHenry is expected to play in the senior team having missed the win over Bell Park before the bye with a concussion suffered the previous week against St Joseph’s.

Heading into the backend of the season, Leopold is well placed to finish with, at worst, the double-chance.

The Lions face only two teams (St Mary’s in Round 15 and Colac in Round 18) inside the top five over the remaining seven rounds.

However, Morphet knows if taking their foot off the pedal could be the difference between the minor premiership and starting their September campaign from an elimination final.

“St Albans has been competitive in patches, Lara was competitive in patches, so I don’t think any side can afford to just coast through a game,” he said.

“Our boys are experienced. They know what they’ve got to do to keep going to where we want to go.

” We’ve had some strong internal reviews – we only had another one Tuesday night – about where we’re heading.

“Ultimately, if we want to get the big prize, every week we have to be concentrating and keep evolving from where we are.”
