K rock has increased its commitment to local football after signing a historic deal with AFL Barwon to broadcast GFL matches.

As well as continuing to call Geelong AFL matches, K rock will bring listeners across Geelong and the Surf Coast the GFL Match of the Round on FM 95.5 for the next two seasons.

The deal also includes the broadcast of all finals.

“This exciting partnership has been a long time in the making,” K rock General Manager Andy Mathers said.

“With K rock’s continued commitment to localism, this partnership could not be more perfect.

“We will continue to call every Geelong Cats AFL match as we have done across 3GL/K rock since 1932.

“We are now adding an AFL standard call to the GFL, with the K rock Match of the Round live every week on K rock 95.5”.

Acting AFL Barwon Region General Manager Georgia Hillman welcomed the partnership, which will see the GFL return to local airwaves for the first time since 2018.

“We are extremely excited to partner with K rock as the official broadcast partner of the GFL,” she said.

“To have an AFL quality call for our Premier competition is something we are extremely proud of and think our clubs will be too.”

Two new awards will be introduced as a result of the partnership:

  • The K rock Player MVP will be a player-voted award presented at the end of the season.
  • The K rock Umpire of the Year will be voted by club coaches and also presented at the conclusion of the season.

The annual Coaches Team of the Year will also be K rock branded for the next two seasons.

K rock will have exclusive access to broadcast the Geelong Football Netball League presentation night, while the polo shirt worn by the 12 club coaches will carry K rock branding.
