Move quickly – McSparron

COLAC coach Rowan McSparron has urged AFL Barwon to move quickly if it plans to run a modified competition for senior football teams.

The local governing body has flagged the potential for a truncated fixture that wouldn’t result in a traditional premiership being awarded following Tuesday’s decision to cancel the 2020 season.

However, McSparron says AFL Barwon can’t sit on its hands.

“Now that the (proper) season isn’t going ahead, you’ll probably find some of the boys will relax a little bit and eat some bad food and have a couple of extra beers,” he said.

“I think if that decision isn’t made hastily, I think we’ll find that a lot of people will drop off this year.”

With his second year in charge at Central Reserve failing to get off the ground, McSparron has now turned his attention to being in the role in 2021.

“I’ll have to sit down with (president) Matty Gibson and the committee and see if they still want me; I didn’t get to do too much this year,” he said.

“I’ll have a chat with the club and I’m looking forward to hopefully coaching the Tigers again next year.”
