NORTH Shore has lost its battle to hold Julian Dobosz to the second year of his contract at an AFL Victoria appeals hearing.

However, fellow wantaway Seagull Bailey Ettridge’s last-ditch bid to join GFL rival Lara has been denied.

The Seagulls had previously knocked back two clearance applications by Dobosz, who has had a change in his work situation, to join Caulfield Grammarians in the VAFA.

North Shore advocate David McDonald says the Seagulls were comfortable with the process, with the hearings for Dobosz and Ettridge on Tuesday night lasting a combined three hours.

“We can’t complain about how the process was run,” he said.

“It was very professional and understood why the result went the way they went.

“Dale (Purcell, president) and I both shook his hand and wished him all the best.

“He’s a good young fella … it’s nothing personal.”

Ettridge, who has played 34 senior games since returning from a junior stint at Anakie, now has the choice to wear the blue and gold over the remaining 14 rounds or sit out the season.

He has lodged a total of five clearances to join the Cats.

“We’ll sit down tonight (Thursday) or on the weekend and look at what we do from here,” McDonald said.

“The football department side of it will look at that.”

Meanwhile, AFL Victoria has also upheld the appeal of Alex Riches, who had lodged a clearance to join Ballarat league club North City.
