THREE-time Mathieson medalist Matt McMahon will head to the AFL Barwon Tribunal tonight (Tuesday) to challenge his suspension for an incident that left St Mary’s gun Harry Benson with a broken jaw.

Newtown & Chilwell has confirmed to krockfootball.com.au that its decorated skipper will appeal the two-week suspension handed down by the Match Review Panel on Monday afternoon.

The MRP finding said McMahon chose to bump Benson, “making high contact in a manner which constituted rough conduct”.

The incident, less than 90 seconds into the Saints’ six-point win, resulted in Benson undergoing surgery on Sunday.

He’s facing a minimum of six weeks on the sidelines.

More to come.
