JUST over six months after providing us with one of the most dramatic GFL grand finals of all-time, Colac and St Mary’s will renew acquaintances to open the 2020 season.

The Tigers, who had their dreams of a second GFL premiership crushed by Nick Connors, will host the Saints at Central Reserve on April 4

It will be one of five matches played on the Saturday before Leopold and Newtown & Chilwell meet in the third edition of the Pride Cup at Memorial Park on Sunday.

South Barwon will host St Albans in the fourth Battle of the Break and Grovedale, under new coach Daniel Fraser, takes on Bell Park.

St Joseph’s clashes with Geelong West at Drew Oval, while Lara will welcome back spearhead Mitch Day after five seasons at Geelong Amateur, as it hosts northern rival North Shore at Bisinella Oval.

St Mary’s will have to wait until the Round 2 night clash at Anthony Costa Oval with St Joseph’s to unfurl its fifth GFL premiership flag.

The Saints feature in consecutive night games, taking on Newtown & Chilwell the following week.

For the first time since 2009, an entire GFL round will be played on Anzac Day, with South Barwon and St Joseph’s rivalry extending into a 12th year.

Byes have been scheduled for May 16 and July 4.

The finals series will start on the weekend of August 29-30 with the grand final scheduled for GMHBA Stadium on September 19.
