JUST over 24 hours after Geelong VFL listed midfielder Nik Rokhar became the fourth significant departure from Bell Park, the Dragons have landed a couple of impressive recruits.

Former Western Bulldogs listed ruckman Luke Goetz and ex-Frankston midfielder Justin Bennett have signed on at Hamlyn Park.

Goetz, who was at Whitten Oval in 2016, and also spent time at VFL level with Williamstown and Essendon, playing four games with the Bombers this year, arrives from Western Region club Altona.

“He will be perfect for our midfield group, giving them first use of the ball,” Bell Park coach Shane Jack said of the 21-year-old.

Bennett, who played TAC Cup with the Dandenong Stingrays and spent a year on Frankston’s list in 2015, was at Colac and District club Birregurra in 2019 before suffering a severe hamstring injury that ended his season in Round 16.

The 23-year-old kicked 27 goals and finished eighth in the league best-and-fairest award

“He will add some real class to our midfield depth,” Jack said.

Jack, who will go it alone as senior coach with Tim Sheringham stepping down after eight seasons as a co-coach, is also hoping the likes of big man Josh Jokic, Aaron Hutchinson and Charlie Farrell will be like recruits in 2020.

Between the trio, they played just 11 matches this year.

“I’m also expecting big improvement from our under-19 group coming up,” Jack said.

“We have some loyal Bell Park kids who are going to play a lot of senior footy at this club.

“We also have some serious bottom-age under-19 talent who will get plenty of game time at senior level as well.”

MEANWHILE, Lara has made its first on-field signing of the off-season with Kyle Mackay arriving at Bisinella Oval from Learmonth.

Mackay captained the Central Highlands league club, was twice runner-up in its best-and-fairest, and also earned interleague selection.
