LARA has received a massive boost in its quest to move out of the GFL’s lower reaches with Mitch Day returning home to Bisinella Oval.

The Cats, who commence pre-season training tonight, have confirmed the power forward is coming home after five seasons at Geelong Amateur.

At Ammis where he played a crucial role in two premierships and won the Les Ash Medal as BFL league best-and-fairest.

Day claimed the Ash in 2015 when he also won the BFL goal kicking title.

In all, he kicked 378 goals in 85 games for Ammos at an average of just under 4.5 per game.

“Mitch is going to give us a whole new dynamic in our forward line and the prospect of having him, his other two returning mates in Kane Smith and Dylan Jose, plus current stars in ‘Stokesy’ (Mathew Stokes) and Brocky (Van Doren) all running around in the same forward line is extremely exciting,” a statement on on Lara’s Facebook page said.

“More importantly it’s amazing to see great Lara names like Day and Smith back in the hoops again.

“We can’t wait to see their families back up at the club more often.”

As well as starring for Geelong Amateur, Day was a regular BFL representative, winning the ‘Bull’ Bennett Medal in 2015, made the BFL Coaches’ Team of the Year four times, and played for Vic Country.

He joins Kyle Mackay (Learmonth) and the returning Dylan Jose as additions for Lara.
