A CHANCE to follow in his dad’s footsteps and become a St Mary’s premiership player provides plenty of motivation for Darcy Chirgwin.
The 20-year-old, who is on the development list of VFL club Werribee, has made an impressive start to the 2022 season, with a 28-disposal effort in the narrow win over South Barwon the pick of the bunch.
Dad Darren was a vital part of the Saints’ 1992 flag, kicking five goals in a 35-point win over Lara, and the younger Chirgwin is driven to do the same.
“It would be great to get two (premierships) and one-up him,” Chirgwin joked on K rock Football.
“It’s definitely something I’d strive to (do) because my family’s been part of this club, and Dad’s a life member.
“That’s the legacy I want to have there as well.”
