ST MARY’S will take an unchanged team in Saturday’s GFL Grand Final clash with Colac after Josh Cowan failed in his bid to overcome a hamstring strain.

The former Geelong midfielder, who managed 15 games this year, suffered the strain early in the Saints first semi-final win over Newtown & Chilwell on September 8.

GFL GRAND FINAL: TIGERS OR SAINTS? WHO ARE THE COACHES’ TIPPING?

Co-coach Travis Robertson says despite training on Tuesday night, the 28-year-old didn’t pull up as well as hoped on Wednesday.

“He’s shattered, and so he should be,” Robertson said. “He’s put a fair bit of effort into our footy club and being within the program.

“He’s had an up-and-down year, in terms of being on the park.

“He was just starting to play some good footy for us in a different role up forward.

“Unfortunately, his body’s given away on him again, which has been par for the course for him over his footy journey.

“It’s really sad.”

Robertson says Cowan, who became a new dad last week, will remain involved on Saturday.

“He’ll have a game-day role to perform with our midfield group,” Robertson said.

“It’s important for him to stay amongst it.”
