ST JOSEPH’S has settled on three changes for Saturday’s preliminary final clash with St Mary’s at GMHBA Stadium.

Luke Webb has been recalled after dropped to the reserves for last week’s second semi-final loss to Colac, while James Allen and Paddy Kelleher were also included.

Allen has managed just five senior games in an injury-interrupted season, with his last against Lara in Round 8.

Kelleher, who returned to Drew Oval this year after a season at BFL club Torquay, has 13 senior matches to his name, with the most recent against North Shore in Round 14.

Brenton Rees, who has a hamstring injury, is the only forced out, with Lewis Antonac returning to the under-19s and Dylan Pettingill the victim of a points squeeze.

Joeys coach Paul Carson is well aware of the hype around the Saints, who enter the clash on a six-game winning streak, including four victories to end the home-and-away season to snatch fifth spot.

“I remember thinking if they could actually make the finals from this point – and that was eight weeks ago – they deserve it because they’ve got to get a lot right,” Carson said.

“Clearly, they have. Their team is still a very, very capable footy team, and they’ve proven that over the last couple of months.

“They deserve the hype because it’s been extraordinary where they’ve come from to be in the position they’re in.

“We’re not underestimating anything St Mary’s do, and we’re really looking forward to playing them.

The Saints has made just the one change.

Josh Cowan (hamstring) will be replaced by Dylan McMahon, who was the Saints best in its reserve grade first semi-final loss to Colac.

Co-coach Travis Robertson says the mood is upbeat around Anthony Costa Oval they look to put aside of consecutive grand final disappointments against St Joseph’s.

“The boys are confident that their form’s good, which is nice,” he said.

“Our last 13-14 weeks is as good as anyone’s, so we’re confident, but we know we need to bring our best.”
