Shoulder to sideline Bourke

SCANS have cleared Kevin Bourke of any structural damage to his shoulder but Leopold will be without the quality small forward for Saturday’s blockbuster clash with St Joseph’s.

Coach Guy Morphet says it could have been a lot worse for Bourke, who will likely be sidelined until after the bye, also ruling him out of the Round 11 meeting with Bell Park.

“When he came off – he came off the in the second quarter – he didn’t have movement above his shoulder, so we were quite concerned early on,” Morphet said

“Missing two weeks is probably not ideal for Kevin, but in the bigger picture it’s probably a good outcome.”

Meanwhile, teammate Nick Bourke is also unlikely to be seen until the Rivalry Round clash with St Albans on July 14 as he recovers from an ankle injury suffered in the Pride Cup clash with Newtown & Chilwell on June 10.

“He had his mind set on Bell Park, but, again, I think we will probably be a little bit more cautious and wait until after the bye,” Morphet said.

“But, in saying that, if he gets to training on Thursday night this week and then trains all next week, then we’d certainly have to consider him.

“But I think I’m probably going to be a bit more conservative with him and say after the bye.”

Tom Scott, Trent Thompson and 2016 premiership player Andrew Pepper are in the mix to replace Kevin Bourke.

“We’ve got a bit of depth at the moment, which is nice,” Morphet said.

“And it can cover a couple of these injuries we’re getting mid-season, which is pretty common for any season.”
